The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison

I bought a 3-pack of Toni Morrison books including: The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Beloved so you can guess my next two blog posts lol Let me start off by saying I had no idea this book was on a few banned list. I was on pins and needles the entire book waiting to read what put it on the banned list and then it hit me head on. What really confused me was how Toni was being labeled as a great American writer but had literature vividly detailing the rape and incest of a little black girl. Then I realized, the picture she was painting was the REAL history of black women in America.

The way the book was broken into seasons was epic because it helped drive home how many things can change in a short period of time and the impact of the seasons on our lives. I also took away that things don’t last always. Once again, the main characters of the book were of course young in age, but what they were dealing with was way ahead of their time. I think it’s easy for us to forget how much young people don’t stay out of grown folks business and how many grown folks don’t keep business between grown folks. Yes, they saw some of the things they spoke about, but much was repeated information from an adult.

Overall, I would rate the book 8/10. The graphic scenes definetly impacted my review. I enjoyed the dialouge throughout the text
